ASD & ADHD

We are committed to providing an environment where all students can thrive, meeting the needs of these students under one banner.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Sensory Processing Disorder & Speech Delay

All of the symptoms and interventions of the above fall within close proximity to each other, which is why our school will be able to meet the needs of these students under one banner.

What is ASD?

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is categorised by:

  1. Social impairment and or communication
  2. Repetitive or restrictive behaviour patterns

Diagnosis is usually made by a clinical psychologist or by a Neuropaed.

These are some of the red flags that are usually indicated during assessment and also expressed from parent interview and feedback.

What is ADHD?

Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects the nervous system, the brain during childhood development. Like ASD it is one of the most common disorders. The forward (/) slash between Attention deficit and Hyperactivity means that people could have either or both presentations of being inattentive or impulsive. People with ADHD can have strengths of hyperfocus and hyperactivity.

ASD & ADHD: How do they overlap?

Autism and ADHD are both neurodevelopmental disorders that can cause significant challenges for those affected. However, there is a considerable amount of overlap between the two conditions, which is why we are able to assist students with both autism and ADHD.
