Curriculum
Our teaching and learning practices are aimed at establishing a collaborative relationship between caregiver/parent and child.
Collaborative relationship
At Lionsgate Academy, our focus is not simply on the curriculum but also on the learner’s needs. Our teaching and learning practices are aimed at establishing a collaborative relationship between caregiver/parent and child. We believe that focus is not simply on the child, but also on the world they live in – ensuring that the learners can reach their potential in a holistic manner.
Teaching & Learning Strategies
Our teaching and learning strategies are adapted and suited to the learners learning ability and adheres to the national curriculum standards and policies. Our curriculum is CAPS compliant but developed to be more flexible to learners on the spectrum. Our focus is on training the brain – understanding that normal is simply about perspective, therefore the only differentiation that takes place is in the classroom teaching techniques.
Learning Experience
The comfort, enjoyment, and manner in which children experience learning are crucial, and having classrooms that are aligned with an approach to learning is also essential. Our goal is to set a new standard and inspire better ways of teaching in a collaborative experience rather than textbook teaching. Classes are kept small so that learning and experience is authentic, innovative, creative, and consistent. Instructions are clear, concise, and positive reinforcement and scaffolding are present to ensure that learners reach their potential.
An Investigative Mind
Themes are developed and standardised so that they are integrated into subjects, thereby reinforcing key themes across the curriculum. Different learning styles are accommodated within the classroom and are evaluated timeously to ensure that the learning taking place is effective. Our focus is not simply on academia, we hope to engage in the learner’s imagination and curiosity, thereby aiming to establish an investigative mind that will in turn assist the learner in self-regulating when in distress.
